Canadian Indie and Industrial Metal

This week, a little known in the UK indie band, and a relatively famous, yet not often cited track by some industrial metal godfathers.

The Stills – Gender Bombs

This Canadian Indie band hailing from Montreal, Quebec, first caught my attention when their single Changes Are No Good featured on the Teachers 3 - A New Term soundtrack. Their glassy, harsh, but well orchestrated production and catchy choruses, guitar lines and lyrics would be perfect for a mainstream setting, if ever they were to find their niche in the populist market. The track chosen this week is from their debut album, Logic Will Break Your Heart, released in 2000. Other singles on the album include the aforementioned Changes Are No Good, and Still In Love Song, also both great songs.

Static-X – Love Dump

Possibly my very favourite Static X song, from their incredible and now legendary debut album,
Wisconsin Death Trip, released in 1999. Ever since then the band have been on a non-stop whirlwind, and took the industrial metal since by storm, gaining likenesses and similarities to such greats as Fear Factory and KoRn. The song in question is as catchy a metal song as you are ever likely to find. Wayne Static's screaming vocals are flawless, brutal and leave a clear mark on the soul following a listen. The chomping yet simple guitar riffs can do nothing but get you nodding your head, and the amount of bass in the production is enough to unsettle any drink that maybe sitting atop your speakers. A great song and an underrated masterpiece.
